Monthly Favourites: October

This post is very much overdue but what with things being a bit mad around these parts, I just haven’t been able to get around to it.  But today I gathered together all the products I had been using constantly in October and continue to use in November.  This is a run down of my Monthly Favourites for October!

My most used eyeshadow palette of the past few weeks has to be, without doubt, the fabulous Urban Decay Vice 2 palette which I reviewed in two parts here and here.  You can create gorgeous daytime neutral looks, something with a dash of colour or something altogether sultry and smokey. I do love a product that encourages you to be more adventurous with your make up!

I have consistently been using two foundations over the past few weeks and they are both by Guerlain.  I use Lingerie De Peau on the days when my skin is in good condition and doesn’t need a lot of coverage – it gives a lovely radiant natural finish to the skin.  On the days where I need a little more help and want an absolutely flawless finish with good coverage, I reach for Tenue De Perfection.  Expensive foundations but worth every penny if you can find a shade that matches your skin tone! You can read my full reviews here and here.

I like to switch up my blush products for winter, opting for warmer tones to pep up my complexion.  I have been using Benefit Rockateur loads since I bought it in October.  I love the rose gold shade of the powder and the glowy finish it gives on my cheeks.  The more you work it into your skin, the more radiant it makes your skin look. I don’t know about you but my skin always needs an extra helping hand in the colder Autumn/Winter months.  I have dry/sensitive skin and the constant transition between biting winds and central heating plays havoc with my complexion.  I get a lot of dryness around my nose and mouth so to combat this, I always use a facial oil after my moisturiser every night.  Obviously I would never use it in the daytime as it would interfere with my foundation.  I really love the Neal’s Yard Wild Rose Beauty Elixir. This particular product has a gel-like consistency and sinks in the skin beautifully.  It contains Wild Rosehip Oil, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and Tumeric to soothe and brighten skin.  It gives an amazing boost to your skincare regime and you’ll find those dry patches clearing up after just a couple of uses.

Korres Lip Butters have cult status in the world of beauty bloggers and that’s because they are highly effective with a beautiful range of shades available.  They aren’t just for summer either – these beauties work wonders for your lips in the colder weather too.  The wash of colour they give on the lips is a perfect wearable version of a bright lip for the daytime.  I got a sample of the Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner in Nude when I got my makeover at their counter in March this year.  All that time has passed and this tiny sample is still a quarter full, despite being used regularly.  It’s an intensive lip treatment that will banish flaky skin and protect your lips from the freezing cold. It has a really pretty pale pinky beige tint that gives your lips that little bit of polish.  I will definitely be heading right over to their counter to purchase the full sized version when this runs out!

Another sample that scored high points from me in october was the Chanel Le Volume Mascara which I received with a Boots online order.  I wasn’t expecting much as I’d never been overly keen on Chanel mascaras in the past.  However this one totally blew me away creating more volume than any other mascara I have tried!  It actually gives the appearance of false lashes and although the full size will be expensive, I am determined to buy it when this sample runs out.  The wand is rubber and grabs every single lash for intensely black lashes. My highlighter of choice for October was Mac Cream Color Base in Pearl which gives a gorgeous glow to cheekbones, brow bones, down the centre of the face and on the cupid’s bow.  I like to blend the product into the back of my hand then tap in into the skin – this prevents you from applying too much.  You don’t want to rub it too much into the skin as this will disturb the rest of your makeup.  The Pearl shade is a gorgeous iridescent ivory that makes your skin look oh-so glowy!

My two favourite nail shades for October were definitely Essie ‘Just For The Twill Of It’ – a metallic steel grey duochrome that flashes purple and green and Leighton Denny ‘Passion’ – a deep rich red with base tones of plum.  The Essie shade is a lovely polish that changes in the light – a novelty I never get bored of.  It applies easily and has great staying power with a good top coat.  The Leighton Denny shade is the perfect sophisticated shade for Autumn/Winter and brings a chic edge to any outfit you wear.  It’s staying power is fantastic and lasts a good 6-7 days on my nails without chipping.
